In my opinion,
the biggest skill a professional DJ brings to an event
is their musical knowledge and the ability to know exactly what song to
play next.
The challenge
at most events is that there is a wide range of ages and
musical tastes. Reacting to the mood of the crowd and blending together
an interest mix of music requires a disc jockey who has experience
"reading" an audience.
As I was
performing standup comedy over the last 25 years I constantly had to
learn to read the crowd's response to what I was doing and respond
accordingly. I bring that same set of skills when I am the
disc jockey for your event.
An extensive
knowledge of music is also required in order to know
a wide range of songs that appeal to all different ages and
what songs can
be used to blend from one era or style of music to another.
My preference
is to play a good cross section of established hits from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s
and throw in hits from the new millenium
as well. While I include Big Bands from the 1940s, early Rock 'n
Roll from the 1950s ,
country music and even some Bhangra when requested, I definitely don't
like
to play crap... er, I mean
rap.
So if you're
looking for someone to DJ an all rap
evening, then
please don't choose me. If you must have rap all night long, please
check out WeDJ.ca
or WeDJ.com to choose the right guy.
Speaking
of choice, in a typical evening event we have time to play about 50
songs. The best way to choose the specific songs that will appeal to a
particular audience requires a disc
jockey who interacts with the people and plays their requests.
My Musical Waiter
request service ensures that everybody has the opportunity to let me
know what music they want.
Which brings me
to the final point in choosing the right DJ for your event.
Are they easy to get along with and a good fit with the
personality of your group? Do you like the DJ?
After you

As we talk
about what you want
for your event, together we can decide if I'd be a good "fit" as the
disc jockey for your event.
My experience
tells me that the answer is likely to be YES
